PM Modi Targets DMK as ‘CMC Govt’ at Tamil Nadu NDA Rally

RR Team, January 23, 2026January 23, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing political attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, branding it a “CMC government” that thrives on corruption, mafia influence and crime. Addressing a massive National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rally in the state, Modi asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu were ready for change and that the countdown to the DMK’s exit had already begun, setting the tone for the 2026 Assembly elections.

The Prime Minister said the scale and enthusiasm of the gathering reflected a broader sentiment across the state. According to him, Tamil Nadu’s electorate was increasingly disillusioned with what he described as years of misgovernance and broken promises, and now viewed the NDA as a credible alternative capable of delivering development and clean administration.

‘CMC Government’: Corruption, Mafia and Crime

Coining a sharp political phrase, Modi said the DMK government had earned the nickname “CMC”, which he said stood for Corruption, Mafia and Crime. He claimed the term had become common parlance among people across Tamil Nadu, reflecting widespread anger against the ruling dispensation.

“You gave the DMK a full majority twice, but they betrayed your trust,” Modi told the crowd. He accused the party of making lofty promises during elections while delivering “zero work” on the ground, adding that public patience was wearing thin.

The Prime Minister asserted that the people had now made up their minds to uproot both the DMK and what he termed its “CMC culture”, expressing confidence that a BJP-led NDA “double-engine government” would come to power in the state.

Allegations of Drug and Liquor Mafia

A major plank of Modi’s attack focused on the alleged spread of drug and liquor mafias under the DMK’s rule. He claimed that narcotics had penetrated schools and colleges, posing a serious threat to the future of Tamil Nadu’s youth.

“Parents are worried, mothers are anxious, watching their children’s lives being destroyed by drugs,” Modi said, accusing the state government of failing to control the menace. He also alleged that liquor mafias had flourished, worsening social problems and family distress.

According to the Prime Minister, the drug problem symbolised a larger governance failure. He claimed that unchecked criminal networks were a direct result of political patronage and lack of accountability under the current regime.

‘Government for One Family’ Charge

Modi further accused the DMK of functioning for the benefit of a single family rather than the people of Tamil Nadu. He alleged that internal democracy within the party was absent and that loyalty to the leadership mattered more than public service.

“If you want to grow in that party, you must become a ‘yes’ person,” he said. Claiming that corruption was visible across districts, Modi remarked that even children in Tamil Nadu were aware of where public money was ending up.

NDA’s Call to ‘Free Tamil Nadu’

Calling for unity among opposition forces, Modi said NDA leaders were standing together with a common mission to free Tamil Nadu from what he described as the “claws of the DMK”. He promised a corruption-free and development-oriented administration if the alliance was voted to power.

“Tamil Nadu can move fast only when it becomes viksit. And when Tamil Nadu progresses, India progresses at the same pace,” he said, linking the state’s growth to the national development agenda.

Pongal, Parakram Diwas and Cultural Connect

Referring to the festive atmosphere in the state, Modi said his visit came shortly after Pongal celebrations, a time of joy and renewal for Tamil Nadu. He noted that it was his first visit to the state in 2026.

He also paid tribute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Parakram Diwas, observed on January 23, and highlighted the contributions of freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu. Modi said valour and patriotism were deeply ingrained in the culture of the state.

Pitching the NDA’s Development Record

Shifting focus to governance, Modi highlighted the Centre’s financial support to Tamil Nadu over the past 11 years. He said the state had received around Rs 3 lakh crore through devolution, nearly three times more than allocations under previous coalition governments.

He also spoke about welfare initiatives and agriculture-linked reforms, saying the NDA aimed to connect farmers and fishermen to cooperatives and global markets. Emphasising Farmer Producer Organisations, Modi said food processing held immense potential in Tamil Nadu.

Referring to schemes like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, he said close to Rs 4 lakh crore had been transferred to farmers nationwide, including Rs 12,700 crore to beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu. More details on central schemes are available on official portals such as pib.gov.in.

Youth, Women and Healthcare Focus

Modi said building a Viksit Bharat depended on empowering youth and women, but accused the DMK of failing on both fronts. He reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare by promoting pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing in Tamil Nadu.

He said such initiatives would not only improve healthcare infrastructure but also generate employment for young people. The Prime Minister concluded by urging voters to give the NDA a decisive mandate in the 2026 elections.
