Bajaj Pune Grand Tour Ends, Pune Shines on Global Sports Map

RR Team, January 23, 2026January 24, 2026

The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour, India’s premier international cycling event, concluded on Friday with a spectacular closing ceremony, firmly establishing Pune as a rising global sports destination. The multi-day cycling spectacle not only showcased elite athletic talent but also reinforced India’s growing sporting ecosystem aligned with the Fit India Mission and the country’s long-term Olympic vision.

The high-energy finale reflected the scale and ambition of the Tour, which brought international-standard competition directly to public roads, towns, and villages. The event drew massive public participation, underlining the growing enthusiasm for fitness and endurance sports across the country.

Grand Finale Attended by Top Leaders

The closing and award ceremony was held at Balgandharva Rangmandir on J.M. Road in Pune and was attended by several distinguished dignitaries. Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Smt. Raksha Khadse presided over the event, joined by Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Shri Chandrakant Patil.

Also present were Shri Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto; Shri Atul Chordia, Chairman of Panchshil Realty; Pune MP Smt. Medha Kulkarni; and senior officials from the district and police administration. Winners across categories were felicitated for their exceptional stamina, skill, and competitive spirit.

Fit India and Olympic Vision at the Core

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Raksha Khadse said the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour exemplifies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Olympic vision and the Fit India movement. She noted that such large-scale sporting events play a crucial role in inspiring youth, nurturing discipline, and building a culture of fitness across urban and rural India.

“The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour drives sporting excellence, inspires the youth, and takes sports directly to the people and villages. It has firmly placed Pune on the global sporting map,” she said, highlighting the event’s wider social and national impact.

Unprecedented Public Participation

Spanning a challenging 437-kilometre route, the Tour witnessed extraordinary public engagement. Over 20 lakh spectators lined the roads across multiple stages, cheering cyclists and transforming the race into a festival of fitness and community participation.

The overwhelming turnout demonstrated that sports in India are no longer confined to stadiums. Instead, they are becoming people-centric movements that reach grassroots communities and motivate citizens of all ages to adopt active lifestyles.

Efforts of Administration and Organisers Praised

Smt. Khadse commended Bajaj Auto for its sustained commitment to promoting sports in India. She also lauded the district administration under Pune Collector Shri Jitendra Dudi, the Pune Municipal Corporation led by Commissioner Shri Naval Kishor Ram, and the police teams for executing the event seamlessly and to international standards.

The coordinated efforts ensured athlete safety, smooth traffic management, and an engaging experience for spectators, reinforcing Pune’s capability to host global sporting events.

More Than a Cycling Competition

The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour has evolved into more than just a race. It represents a movement that promotes fitness, resilience, and unity while projecting India’s sporting prowess on the international stage.

By combining elite competition with mass participation, the Tour aligns with national priorities of health, youth empowerment, and sporting excellence. It also strengthens India’s preparations for future global sporting events.

With its successful conclusion, the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour has set a new benchmark for endurance sports in India, reaffirming Pune’s emergence as a global sports hub and reflecting the country’s growing confidence on the world sporting stage.
