The Department of Justice (DoJ) extended its year-long “Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman” campaign to Bikaner, Rajasthan, with a regional event at Maharaja Ganga Singh University. This initiative commemorates the 75th year of the Indian Republic and aims to instil awareness and appreciation for the Constitution.
The event boasted a distinguished presence. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, and esteemed representatives from the Rajasthan government led the gathering. Around 900 participants, encompassing legal professionals like judges and advocates, law students, and government officials, actively engaged in the proceedings.
A key highlight was the launch of innovative programs to strengthen legal services at the grassroots level. The “Nyaya Sahayak” program, rolled out in 500 aspirational blocks across India, designates community-based representatives to facilitate doorstep legal services and conduct awareness campaigns through “Vidhi Baithaks” (legal awareness sessions). The event also recognized Tele-Law volunteers who have played a proactive role in promoting legal awareness and registering cases at the village level.
The event championed women’s empowerment through legal initiatives. The Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice released a special women’s edition of “Voices of Beneficiaries,” showcasing 75 success stories of women who gained legal recourse and empowerment through the Tele-Law program. Furthermore, Chief Justice Chandrachud acknowledged Bikaner’s district administration as a role model for being led by women, including the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, and Superintendent of Police.
Recognizing the transformative potential of technology, CJI Chandrachud emphasized its crucial role in enhancing justice delivery. The event highlighted initiatives like video conferencing for court hearings, translation of Supreme Court judgments into regional Hindi languages, and expanding e-court services to encompass every District Court, including those in Bikaner and the Rajasthan High Court.
CJI Chandrachud emphasized the importance of fostering a society well-versed in constitutional rights and principles. He urged citizens to establish “Samvidhan Katcha” – informal community groups dedicated to holding discussions on the Constitution. This initiative aims to create a vibrant network for upholding fraternity and harmony, ultimately realizing the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice for all. Additionally, he inspired law students to form a human chain to spread legal awareness, urging them to reach out to ten individuals each, who would then educate ten more, creating an extensive knowledge-sharing network.
