Mann Ki Baat: Democracy, Startups & Republic Day

RR Team, January 25, 2026January 25, 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on January 25, 2026, ahead of Republic Day, reflecting on democracy, innovation, public participation, and India’s cultural strength.

Republic Day and the Spirit of Democracy

The Prime Minister noted that the episode coincided with National Voters’ Day and the eve of Republic Day. He described voting as the soul of democracy and urged young citizens to register as voters upon turning 18. PM Modi suggested celebrating first-time voters as a way to strengthen democratic awareness.

He also praised election officials and grassroots workers who ensure the smooth functioning of India’s democratic system, calling their role vital in keeping democracy vibrant.

Ten Years of Startup India

Recalling the launch of the Startup India initiative in 2016, the Prime Minister highlighted how young innovators transformed the idea into a global success story. India, he said, is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.

Startups are actively working in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, space technology, semiconductors, biotechnology, green hydrogen, and mobility. PM Modi saluted young entrepreneurs for stepping out of their comfort zones and contributing to nation-building.

Quality as the New National Mantra

Emphasizing the need for excellence, the Prime Minister urged industries and startups to focus on quality in every aspect of production. He reiterated the vision of “Zero Defect, Zero Effect,” stressing that Indian products should become synonymous with top quality worldwide.

Power of Public Participation

PM Modi shared inspiring stories of collective action from across the country. In Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, citizens revived the Tamsa River through community-driven cleaning and plantation efforts. In drought-prone Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, reservoir revival projects improved water availability and green cover.

He said such initiatives reflect India’s greatest strength people coming together with a sense of duty.

Culture, Diaspora and Social Harmony

The Prime Minister spoke about innovative cultural expressions like “bhajan clubbing,” where youth combine devotion with modern presentation while preserving spiritual dignity. He also lauded the Indian diaspora in Malaysia for promoting Indian languages and culture.

Highlighting social unity, he mentioned community kitchens in Gujarat and collective efforts in Jammu and Kashmir to combat substance abuse.

Environment, Cleanliness and Millets

PM Modi praised youth-led cleanliness drives in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bengaluru, and Chennai, underlining the importance of individual and collective efforts. He also appreciated environmental champions who planted thousands of trees.

He highlighted the success of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and renewed interest in millets, or Shree Anna, noting their health benefits and role in improving farmers’ incomes.

Looking Ahead

Concluding the programme, the Prime Minister spoke about the upcoming India AI Impact Summit and said future episodes of Mann Ki Baat would continue celebrating India’s achievements. He extended his Republic Day greetings to all citizens.
