BISAG-N, QNu Labs Partner to Boost Quantum-Safe Cybersecurity

RR Team, January 28, 2026January 29, 2026
In a significant step towards safeguarding India’s digital future, the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QNu Labs Pvt. Ltd. to collaborate on quantum-resilient cybersecurity solutions. The partnership aims to strengthen India’s preparedness against emerging cybersecurity threats posed by rapid advancements in quantum computing.

The MoU was signed under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), underscoring the government’s strategic focus on building secure, trusted, and future-ready digital infrastructure through indigenous innovation.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Leadership

The agreement was formalised in the presence of Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Jitin Prasada. Senior officials, including Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, along with leadership teams from BISAG-N and QNu Labs, also attended the signing ceremony.

The presence of top policymakers highlighted the national importance of the collaboration, particularly as India accelerates its digital transformation across governance, defence, and critical infrastructure sectors.

Preparing for the Quantum Computing Era

As quantum computing capabilities continue to evolve globally, conventional cryptographic systems face the risk of becoming obsolete. Recognising this challenge, the BISAG-N–QNu Labs collaboration seeks to proactively develop quantum-resilient cybersecurity solutions capable of withstanding future threats.

The partnership reflects India’s strategic intent to move from reactive cybersecurity measures to long-term, forward-looking security frameworks that can protect sensitive data for decades.

Integration of Indigenous Software and Quantum Hardware

Under the MoU, BISAG-N’s indigenous cryptographic software capabilities, including its in-house solution “Vedic Kavach,” will be integrated with quantum hardware and secure infrastructure platforms developed by QNu Labs. This integration is expected to result in robust, hardware-backed cybersecurity solutions.

BISAG-N has already undertaken one of India’s early government-led implementations of quantum-resilient systems, covering secure web servers and an indigenous secure web browser integrated with Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG).

Framework for Technology Transfer and Deployment

The MoU establishes a structured framework for technology transfer, integration, and deployment of quantum-resilient cybersecurity solutions. These solutions are intended for use across government systems, defence networks, critical infrastructure, and public sector platforms, in line with applicable national policies.

Senior officials noted that such frameworks are essential to transition cutting-edge research into practical, deployable technologies that address real-world security challenges.

Government’s Vision for Long-Term Digital Security

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jitin Prasada said India is building digital technologies not just for present needs but for the next generation. He emphasised that as digital systems become increasingly pervasive, ensuring their long-term security is a national imperative.

Echoing this view, MeitY Secretary Shri S. Krishnan highlighted that with the expansion of India’s digital ecosystem across finance, governance, and citizen-centric services, quantum-resilient cybersecurity has become a critical priority.

Industry Perspective on Indigenous Innovation

Commenting on the collaboration, the Chief Growth Officer of QNu Labs said the company has followed an India-first approach since its inception. He described the partnership with BISAG-N as a strategic step towards building indigenous quantum-resilient cybersecurity capabilities.

By combining government-developed cryptographic software with Indian-designed quantum hardware, the collaboration aims to strengthen national digital security in a self-reliant and forward-looking manner.

Aligned with National Missions and Vision 2047

The BISAG-N–QNu Labs MoU is aligned with key national initiatives such as the National Quantum Mission, Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. It reinforces India’s commitment to developing secure and trusted digital public infrastructure.
