Congratulations to New Leadership
In his message, the Prime Minister congratulated Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Shri Losii Dikho on assuming office as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Manipur. Both leaders are expected to play a crucial role in steering the State through a sensitive phase marked by social and administrative challenges.
Shri Modi also congratulated Shri Konthoujam Govindas Singh and Shri Khuraijam Loken Singh on being sworn in as Ministers in the new Manipur government.
Message Shared on Social Media
The Prime Minister shared his message through a post on social media platform X, underscoring the importance of stable leadership in Manipur at this juncture.
“I’m confident they will work diligently towards furthering development and prosperity for my sisters and brothers of Manipur,” the Prime Minister said, reaffirming the Centre’s support for the State.
Political Context
The swearing-in of the new Council of Ministers comes after President’s Rule in Manipur was revoked earlier in the day. The State had been under central rule since February 2025 due to political instability and continuing ethnic tensions.
The formation of an elected government was seen as constitutionally necessary, as extensions of President’s Rule beyond one year require special parliamentary approval.
Expectations from the New Government
Political observers say the Prime Minister’s message signals strong backing from the Centre for the new Manipur government. The focus is expected to remain on restoring peace, rebuilding trust among communities and accelerating development initiatives.
The new leadership faces the immediate task of addressing law and order, rehabilitation of displaced families, and ensuring the smooth functioning of governance across the State.
Centre-State Cooperation
The Centre has repeatedly emphasised cooperative federalism in addressing the challenges faced by northeastern States. Prime Minister Modi’s outreach to the Manipur leadership reflects this approach, officials said.
Path Ahead
As Manipur begins a new political chapter, expectations are high that the government led by Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh will prioritise dialogue, inclusive development and long-term stability.
The Prime Minister’s congratulatory message is being viewed as a symbolic but significant gesture of confidence in the State’s new leadership at a critical moment.
