The accident occurred in the Gwal Toli police station area, a busy commercial stretch known for heavy pedestrian movement. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as the powerful supercar lost control, damaging vehicles and sending bystanders scrambling for safety.
Sequence of Events in the Kanpur Market Crash
According to preliminary police findings, the Lamborghini, bearing a Delhi registration number, was being driven at excessive speed when it first collided with an autorickshaw. Instead of slowing down after the initial impact, the vehicle allegedly accelerated further, alarming shopkeepers and pedestrians.
Moments later, near a turn in the road, the car lost control and rammed into a parked motorcycle. The two-wheeler belonged to Vishal Tripathi, a resident of Arya Nagar, who was standing nearby and talking to someone at the time of the crash. Fortunately, he escaped with minor injuries.
Pedestrian Injured While Fleeing Speeding Car
In the ensuing confusion, a pedestrian identified as Taufiq, a resident of Chaman Ganj Ghosiyana, sustained injuries while attempting to escape the out-of-control vehicle. He was reportedly on his way to Karbala when the accident unfolded.
Police confirmed that the injured pedestrian was immediately sent for medical examination. His condition was stated to be stable, though doctors continue to monitor him for possible complications.
Eyewitness Accounts and Crowd Reaction
Several eyewitnesses claimed that after striking the autorickshaw, the Lamborghini’s speed appeared to double, creating fear among those present in the market. Shopkeepers reportedly rushed to pull customers inside their establishments as the vehicle hurtled forward.
The situation briefly escalated when a crowd gathered at the spot, leading to heated arguments and verbal confrontations. Police personnel arrived shortly thereafter and managed to bring the situation under control, dispersing the crowd and securing the area.
Police Action and Investigation Underway
The Kanpur police have seized the Lamborghini and registered an FIR in connection with the incident. Officials confirmed that the car is registered in the name of tobacco tycoon K.K. Mishra, while his son Shivam Kumar Mishra, aged 45, was allegedly behind the wheel.
Station House Officer Santosh Gaur of Gwal Toli police station stated that CCTV footage from nearby shops and traffic cameras is being examined. Eyewitness statements are also being recorded to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
Police further revealed that bodyguards accompanying Shivam Mishra in another vehicle took him to a hospital following the crash, as he too sustained injuries. His medical reports are awaited and may form part of the investigation.
Road Safety Concerns and Public Outrage
The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving of high-performance vehicles on congested urban roads. Residents and traders in the area have demanded strict action, stating that luxury cars driven at high speed pose a serious threat to public safety.
Authorities reiterated that the law applies equally to all individuals, regardless of social or economic status. Further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation and forensic analysis of the vehicle.
