The Election Commission has announced bye-elections to fill vacancies in several Assembly Constituencies, coinciding with the General Election to Lok Sabha, in 2024. Here is the list of constituencies and the reasons for the vacancies:
Bihar
- 195-Agiaon (SC) – Vacant due to the disqualification of Shri Manoj Manjil
Gujarat
- 26 – Vijapur – Vacated by Dr. C. J. Chavda’s resignation
- 108 – Khambhat – Vacated by Shri Chiragkumar Arvindbhai Patel’s resignation
- 136 – Vaghodia – Vacated by Shri Dharmendrasinh Ranubha Vaghela’s resignation
- 85 – Manavadar – Vacated by Shri Arvindbhai Jinabhai Ladani’s resignation
- 83 – Porbandar – Vacated by Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia’s resignation
Haryana
- 21-Karnal – Vacated by Shri Manohar Lal’s resignation
Jharkhand
- 31- Gandey – Vacated by Dr. Sarfaraj Ahamad’s resignation
Maharashtra
- 30 – Akola West – Vacated due to the death of Shri Govardhan Mangilal Sharma alias Lalaji
Tripura
- 7- Ramnagar – Vacated due to the death of Shri Surajit Datta
Uttar Pradesh
- 136 – Dadraul – Vacated due to the death of Shri Manavendra Singh
- 173 – Lucknow East – Vacated due to the death of Sri Ashutosh Tandan ‘Gopal Ji’
- 292 – Gainsari – Vacated due to the death of Dr. Shiv Pratap Yadav
- 403 – Duddhi (ST) – Vacant due to the disqualification of Shri Ram Dular
West Bengal
- 62-Bhagawangola – Vacated due to the death of Shri Idris Ali
- 113- Baranagar – Vacated by Shri Tapas Roy’s resignation
Telangana
- 71-Secunderabad Cantt.(SC) – Vacated due to the death of Ms Lasya Nanditha Sayanna
Additionally, vacancies in the Assembly Constituencies of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are also being filled through bye-elections.

Electoral Rolls
The Commission has focused extensively on enhancing the quality and accuracy of electoral rolls, with special emphasis on updating them regularly. The final publication of electoral rolls concerning different qualifying dates has been completed as per the schedule provided.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) & VVPATs
The Commission has decided to utilize EVMs and VVPATs in all polling stations for the bye-elections to ensure the smooth conduct of polls.
Identification of Voters
EPIC shall serve as the primary identification document for voters. Additionally, various other identification documents can be presented at the polling station to facilitate the voting process.
Model Code of Conduct
The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately in the districts where the Assembly constituencies going for election are situated.
Information Regarding Criminal Antecedents
Candidates with criminal antecedents are required to publish information about their criminal background in newspapers and television channels during the campaign period. Political parties are also obligated to disclose such information about their candidates.
COVID-Related Arrangements During Bye-Election
The Commission has issued comprehensive COVID guidelines to be adhered to during the conduct of the bye-elections, which are available on the Commission’s website.
