Kutumb Launches Polo, Enters Gay Dating Market

RR Team, February 16, 2026February 16, 2026
Bengaluru: Tiger Global-backed social platform Kutumb has quietly stepped into India’s LGBTQ+ dating space with the launch of Polo, a dedicated gay dating application now available on the Google Play Store. The move marks a significant diversification for the Bengaluru-based company as it expands beyond its core community-first social networking platform.
While Kutumb has not made a formal public announcement about Polo’s rollout, the app’s listing confirms that it is live and actively onboarding users. The launch signals the company’s growing ambitions in India’s consumer internet ecosystem.

Features Focused on Safety and Matchmaking

According to its Play Store description, Polo offers selfie-based profile verification aimed at enhancing authenticity and user safety. The app includes smart matchmaking tools, instant messaging, and integrated audio and video calling features.

Users can also create private photo albums and apply interest-based filters such as age and location to refine matches. These features are designed to improve personalisation while addressing long-standing concerns in the online dating industry around fake profiles and harassment.

Safety and moderation remain key challenges in LGBTQ+ dating platforms, particularly in urban India where adoption is rising but social stigma and privacy risks persist.

Entry Into a Growing Niche Market

Polo enters a market already served by global and domestic platforms such as Grindr, ROMEO, u2nite, HiMoon and RainbowLuv. Although smaller than mainstream dating apps, India’s LGBTQ+ dating segment has witnessed steady growth, driven by increased smartphone penetration and greater social acceptance.

Industry observers note that user trust, data security and effective moderation are critical success factors in this space. Apps that can provide strong verification and privacy controls are more likely to achieve long-term retention.

India’s digital ecosystem has expanded significantly over the past decade, aided by policy initiatives and increasing internet access.

Kutumb’s Expanding Consumer Portfolio

Polo is part of Kutumb’s broader strategy to build multiple consumer-facing applications across categories. Beyond its flagship community platform, the company operates apps in astrology, lifestyle, utilities and AI-driven engagement.

Its portfolio includes Tarot99, Astro99, Digi God, Piku AI, Zuno, Zumo and Digital Baby. The expansion into dating suggests a deliberate push to tap into niche yet monetisable digital communities.

Sources indicate that Polo is currently generating approximately Rs 5 crore in monthly revenue. However, Kutumb has not officially confirmed these figures and did not immediately respond to queries.

Strong Financial Performance

Kutumb has demonstrated significant financial growth over the past year. For FY25, the company’s revenue from operations surged 173 percent year-on-year to Rs 128.6 crore, up from Rs 47.2 crore in FY24.

The company also reported a net profit of Rs 12 crore for FY25, a marked turnaround from a loss of Rs 3 crore in the previous fiscal year. The improved profitability underscores Kutumb’s ability to monetise its user base effectively.

In June 2021, Kutumb raised $26 million in a Series A funding round led by Tiger Global, with participation from Quiet Capital, Rocketship VC, Nirman Investments, AngelList Syndicate and several angel investors.

Competitive and Regulatory Landscape

The LGBTQ+ dating market in India operates within a sensitive social and regulatory environment. While the decriminalisation of Section 377 in 2018 paved the way for greater visibility and inclusion, community members continue to prioritise privacy and discretion.

Platforms entering this segment must therefore balance growth ambitions with robust compliance frameworks and user protection measures. Transparent data policies and effective grievance mechanisms are likely to be decisive factors in building credibility.

Outlook

By entering the gay dating market, Kutumb is positioning itself within a niche but steadily expanding digital segment. If Polo can maintain strong safety standards and offer differentiated features, it may carve out a meaningful share in India’s evolving LGBTQ+ online ecosystem.

The company’s financial momentum and investor backing provide it with resources to scale operations. However, long-term success will depend on trust, community engagement and the ability to navigate both competition and regulatory expectations.
