Union Minister Scindia Engages Students in Ashtalakshmi Darshan

RR Team, February 20, 2026February 21, 2026
Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, virtually interacted with the 11th batch of students participating in the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme at Sikkim University. The programme, running from 9th to 22nd February 2026, includes 22 students from Chandigarh and 15 from Tamil Nadu. Officials from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and Sikkim University also attended the session.
The Ashtalakshmi Darshan initiative, funded and organized by MDoNER through the North Eastern Council (NEC), aims to foster national integration and strengthen cultural bonds between students from different states. Through immersive 14-day exposure visits, academic sessions, heritage tours, and community engagement, students experience the unique traditions, languages, and lifestyles of the North Eastern region.

To date, 390 students have participated across ten batches, with 81 students currently engaged in the ongoing 11th and 12th batches. The programme anticipates a total participation of 1,280 students from 28 states and union territories over 32 batches.

Promoting Inclusivity and National Unity

Minister Scindia highlighted the programme’s emphasis on equal participation of boys and girls, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and youth empowerment. Describing Ashtalakshmi Darshan as a key component of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, he underlined its role in connecting students from across India with the North Eastern states, thereby promoting cultural understanding, mutual respect, and national cohesion.

Speaking on Northeast India’s tourism potential, the Minister emphasized its ability to create opportunities and enhance livelihoods, pointing specifically to Sikkim’s rich natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Student Experiences and Learnings

During the interaction, students shared their experiences. Ms. Keerthana P from Tamil Nadu described it as a “wonderful opportunity for real-life learning,” while Mr. Ansari A, a differently-abled student, expressed gratitude to MDoNER for facilitating the experience. Ms. Rajanpreet Kaur from Chandigarh reflected on the programme’s integration of environmental awareness and development initiatives in Sikkim.

In his concluding remarks, Minister Scindia encouraged students to share their experiences with family and friends and carry forward the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. He stressed the importance of returning home with stories that highlight the North East’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Programme Impact and Future Vision

Launched under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme exemplifies the government’s commitment to youth engagement, cultural integration, and national unity. The initiative reinforces the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, fostering mutual understanding and nationwide camaraderie among India’s youth.
