Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan to Visit Tamil Nadu

RR Team, February 21, 2026February 21, 2026
The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, will visit Tamil Nadu on February 22, 2026, for a series of significant public engagements, including a foundation stone laying ceremony in Madurai and visits to heritage landmarks in Sivaganga district. The visit highlights the Centre’s continued recognition of Tamil Nadu’s historical icons and spiritual heritage.

the Vice-President will participate as the Chief Guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a statue of freedom fighter Thiru V.O. Chidambaram Pillai in Vandiyur, Madurai.

Foundation Stone for V.O. Chidambaram Pillai Statue

The statue of Thiru V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, widely revered as “Kappalottiya Tamizhan,” will be installed in Vandiyur, Madurai. The event is expected to witness the presence of local leaders, cultural representatives, and members of the public.

V.O. Chidambaram Pillai played a pivotal role in India’s freedom movement, particularly in promoting indigenous enterprise during British rule. His Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company became a symbol of economic resistance and self-reliance. The installation of his statue aims to honour his contribution and inspire future generations.

Visit to Thirukoshtiyur Sowmya Narayana Perumal Temple

During his Tamil Nadu visit, the Vice-President will also offer prayers at the historic Thirukoshtiyur Sowmya Narayana Perumal Temple in Sivaganga district. The temple is an important Vaishnavite shrine with deep religious and architectural significance.

Known for its Dravidian-style architecture and spiritual legacy, the temple holds a revered position among devotees. It is associated with prominent saints of the Bhakti movement and continues to attract pilgrims from across the country.

Rani Velu Nachiyar Palace Visit

The Vice-President is also scheduled to visit the historic Rani Velu Nachiyar Palace in Sivaganga. Rani Velu Nachiyar is remembered as one of the earliest queens to wage armed resistance against British colonial forces in the 18th century.

The palace stands as a testament to Tamil Nadu’s rich martial history and the legacy of courageous women leaders. The visit is expected to underscore the importance of preserving historical monuments that reflect India’s struggle for sovereignty.

Significance of the Visit

The Vice-President’s engagements combine remembrance of freedom fighters with recognition of spiritual and cultural landmarks. By participating in the statue foundation ceremony and visiting heritage sites, the Vice-President’s itinerary reflects a blend of national history and regional pride.

Such visits reinforce the Centre’s engagement with states and promote awareness about India’s diverse cultural legacy. Tamil Nadu, with its deep historical roots and vibrant traditions, continues to occupy a central place in India’s civilizational narrative.
