Fit India Cycle Drive Boosts CWG 2030 Hopes

RR Team, February 22, 2026February 22, 2026

India’s sporting ambitions received a major boost as top athletes celebrated the nation’s successful bid to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030. The announcement coincided with the 62nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, a nationwide fitness initiative organised in collaboration with ESIC at over 1,000 locations across India.

Athletes Applaud CWG 2030 Hosting

Hockey star Rupinder Pal Singh, part of the Olympic bronze-winning Indian hockey team in Tokyo 2020, said the government’s proactive push and coordination between the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and National Sports Federations (NSFs) played a key role in securing CWG 2030. “Playing in front of home fans is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. India last hosted the CWG in 2010, and I am confident our athletes will replicate that success in 2030,” he said.

Rupinder highlighted the return of hockey and shooting to the CWG roster, noting it would inspire players to perform at their best.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle Engages Citizens

The 62nd edition of the cycling drive saw participation from over 500 people at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Dehradun, including athletes, Fit India champions Tanvee Tutlani and Atul Jindal, along with officials from ESIC and Khelo India. The campaign promotes at least 30–60 minutes of daily physical activity and encourages sustainable mobility.

Rupinder Pal Singh emphasized the importance of fitness amid rising lifestyle-related diseases, urging citizens to integrate cycling, yoga, Zumba, or rope skipping into daily routines. He also congratulated ESIC on completing 75 years of service and social security provision.

Boxing Star Rohit Tokas Motivates Youth

Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Rohit Tokas welcomed the CWG 2030 announcement, stressing that hosting international events strengthens sports infrastructure and motivates young athletes. “Competing in front of the home crowd is a goosebump moment. CWG 2030 will inspire more youngsters to take up sports professionally,” he said.

He also praised the Fit India movement, highlighting the enthusiasm, energy, and participation across India. “Fitness should become part of everyone’s life. Even indoor activities like yoga or Zumba help maintain health,” he added.

Nationwide Reach and Impact

Since its inception in December 2024 by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a nationwide movement, with over 25 lakh citizens participating across more than 2 lakh locations. The initiative is conducted by MYAS in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, rope skipping teams, and MY Bharat.

The cycling drive runs simultaneously in all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs).
