FDDI Hyderabad Holds 5th Convocation Ceremony

RR Team, February 23, 2026February 23, 2026
The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 5th Convocation Ceremony at its Hyderabad campus on Monday. Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, attended the event as Chief Guest and addressed graduating students on the importance of innovation, sustainability and skill-driven growth in India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

Minister Highlights Manufacturing Growth

In his convocation address, Shri Kishan Reddy underlined India’s steady progress in manufacturing, innovation and skill development. He noted that sectors such as footwear and leather play a vital role in strengthening the country’s export capacity and employment generation.

The Minister emphasized that the footwear and leather industry contributes significantly to the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He encouraged students to embrace advanced technology, sustainable production practices and design innovation to enhance India’s global competitiveness.

Hyderabad Campus Growth Since 2018

Dr. Tej Lohit Reddy (IAS), Executive Director of FDDI Hyderabad, welcomed dignitaries and highlighted the campus’s growth since its establishment in 2018. He pointed to the development of modern laboratories, a Centre of Excellence and strengthened collaborations with industry partners.

He said the Hyderabad campus has emerged as a hub for design education and technical training, supporting the broader vision of skill development aligned with national priorities.

72 Students Graduate Across Disciplines

The Batch of 2025 comprised 72 students from various disciplines, including Fashion Design, Footwear Design, Leather Goods and Accessories Design, and Management programmes. Degrees were formally conferred in the presence of faculty members, industry representatives and proud family members.

The ceremony included the administration of the convocation oath and recognition of academic excellence through gold and silver medals. Meritorious students were honoured for their consistent performance and dedication to their respective fields.

Focus on Innovation and Sustainability

Managing Director Shri Vivek Sharma (IRS) congratulated the graduating students and reiterated FDDI’s commitment to nurturing globally competent professionals. He urged them to integrate ethical practices, sustainability and innovation into their careers.

Speakers at the event highlighted that FDDI continues to strengthen the footwear, leather, fashion and retail ecosystem through research, skill development and active industry engagement. The institute aligns its academic programmes with evolving global standards in design and manufacturing.

Role in MSME and Export Ecosystem

The footwear and leather sector remains one of India’s important employment generators, particularly in the MSME segment.

By fostering innovation-driven education, FDDI aims to prepare students not only for jobs but also for leadership roles in entrepreneurship and global markets. The convocation ceremony reflected this larger mission of bridging academia and industry.

As the graduates step into professional life, the institute’s leadership expressed confidence that they would contribute meaningfully to India’s design-led manufacturing growth story. The event concluded on a celebratory note, marking both academic achievement and a renewed commitment to excellence.
