Kerala at a Decisive Juncture
Dr Singh underlined that Kerala stands at a critical point where its strong educational base, skilled workforce, and coastal resources can be leveraged to accelerate inclusive growth. He stressed that the integration of Kerala’s development agenda with national initiatives in science, technology, and the blue economy will maximize the state’s potential.
From Kerala to Keralam: Cultural Recognition
Highlighting the central government’s commitment, Dr Singh referred to the official adoption of the name “Keralam” in place of “Kerala” during the first Cabinet meeting at Seva Teerth. This decision, he noted, reflects sensitivity toward the state’s linguistic and cultural heritage and reinforces the government’s commitment to respecting regional identity while pursuing development objectives.
Coastal Infrastructure and Fisheries Development
The Minister pointed to successive Union Budgets that allocated dedicated resources for strengthening coastal infrastructure, promoting fisheries, and expanding livelihood opportunities in maritime sectors. Dr Singh emphasized that initiatives such as the Deep Ocean Mission and sustainable ocean resource management offer significant avenues for economic growth along Kerala’s extensive coastline.
Double Engine Momentum Through Coordinated Governance
Dr Singh stressed that the alignment of Kerala’s development priorities with national missions can create a “double engine” effect, accelerating progress. He highlighted that effective implementation of central schemes, combined with active cooperation between state and central authorities, is crucial for achieving measurable outcomes and tangible benefits for citizens.
Accountable Governance and Citizen-Centric Policies
Former Union Minister Shri Muralidharan underscored the need for greater accountability and responsiveness in sectors such as healthcare, especially for economically weaker sections. Dr Singh concurred, emphasizing that the next decade requires transparent, results-driven governance to unlock Kerala’s full potential and contribute meaningfully to India’s broader growth trajectory.
Future Outlook
Dr Singh concluded that with a clear roadmap, science-led initiatives, and accountable governance, Kerala is well positioned to harness its unique strengths and resources. The coordinated efforts between state and central government will be key in translating policy into action, ensuring that Kerala contributes significantly to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
