Shri Manohar Lal, Cabinet Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, graced the event as Chief Guest. He emphasized the role of BEE as a “preventive institution” in the power sector, highlighting that every unit of electricity conserved reduces the need for additional generation and lowers emissions. Shri Lal lauded BEE’s contribution to energy efficiency and India’s progress in meeting climate commitments, noting a 36% reduction in emissions intensity of GDP since 2005 and 52% non-fossil fuel capacity achieved ahead of 2030 targets.
The Minister also outlined key BEE initiatives including the Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO), Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme, Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE), ADEETIE for MSMEs, Standards & Labelling Programme, Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC), and transport sector efficiency measures. He stressed the importance of energy efficiency in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and in emerging areas like data centres and Artificial Intelligence.
Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), described energy efficiency as India’s “First Fuel” and highlighted BEE’s efforts in cooling efficiency, industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency hubs, and transport sector fuel efficiency improvements. Earlier, BEE Director General Shri Krushna Chandra Panigrahy reflected on the Bureau’s journey and its ongoing mission to accelerate energy efficiency adoption nationwide.
The newly launched RCO Portal (http://www.rco.beeindia.gov.in) aims to enhance transparency, streamline compliance, and support data-driven monitoring under various energy efficiency programmes. Additionally, the BEE Star Label Mobile App, developed in collaboration with CLASP, allows consumers to scan QR codes on appliances to access detailed product information, energy performance, and compliance data, promoting informed purchasing decisions and greater adoption of energy-efficient products.
The celebration also featured a fireside interaction with former Directors General of BEE, moderated by Dr Satish Kumar, President of the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), and felicitated retired officials of State Designated Agencies for their contributions to advancing energy conservation initiatives at the state level.
The 25th Foundation Day underscored BEE’s continued commitment to promoting energy efficiency as a driver of sustainable growth, national energy security, and environmental responsibility, supporting India’s journey towards a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
