Focus on Indian Nationals and Regional Security
The CCS session will prioritize the safety of approximately 10,000 Indians in Iran and the wider 9.6 million Indian diaspora in the Middle East. Officials will discuss measures to ensure their protection, given the rising hostilities and closure of airspace. Indian embassies in Tehran, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, and Damascus have issued advisories urging citizens to register on the MADAD portal and follow local security guidelines.
Recent Diplomatic Engagements
PM Modi returned from a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu to chair the CCS meeting. Earlier this month, Modi traveled to Israel for a landmark visit, receiving a standing ovation at the Knesset while emphasizing India’s firm support for Israel. During the visit, India and Israel signed 16 agreements covering defence, artificial intelligence, agriculture, energy, and cultural exchange, elevating ties to a Special Strategic Partnership.
Government Stance and MEA Actions
India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the ongoing US-Iran conflict, calling for restraint, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar, stressing India’s commitment to diplomacy and civilian safety.
Authorities have advised citizens in Iran, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, and Palestine to exercise caution and remain vigilant. While evacuation is not immediately planned, the government continues to monitor the situation and maintain contact with Indian nationals across the region.
