Currently, many high-performance EV powertrain systems rely on imported semiconductors. The indigenous 30 kW IDS will reduce costs, foster scalable manufacturing, and create opportunities for MSMEs in power electronics, thermal management, and control hardware. The project is aligned with national initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost Make-in-India initiatives in strategic technology sectors.
Shri Krishnan emphasized that the IDS embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India, Make for the World,” transitioning India from technology importer to developer and exporter. The system strengthens domestic intellectual property, accelerates the EV start-up ecosystem, and supports high-value manufacturing, ensuring India’s competitive presence in the global EV and semiconductor landscape.
The IDS has successfully completed design, fabrication, and validation with Lucas TVS and is ready for commercialization. MeitY, through NaMPET, continues to foster collaborations between R&D institutions, academia, and industry to develop advanced, self-reliant power electronics technologies for next-generation mobility and energy solutions.
The launch event was attended by senior officials including Shri E. Magesh, Director General, C-DAC; Shri Manoj Kumar Jain, MeitY; Shri Ramanathan N S, CTO, Lucas TVS; Shri Renji V Chako, Senior Director, C-DAC; Dr Om Krishan Singh, Scientist ‘E’, MeitY; Prof Kamlesh Hatua, IIT Madras, alongside representatives from industry, highlighting the strategic collaboration between government, academia, and private enterprise.
With this development, India strengthens its EV supply chain, fosters innovation-led start-ups, and enhances its global competitiveness in sustainable electric mobility. The 30 kW WBG IDS marks a milestone in the nation’s journey towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat in electric vehicles and advanced electronics.
