Essential Health Services at the Doorstep
Citizens visiting the camps received free medical consultations and on-site diagnostic services including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar tests and thyroid screening. Pediatric care and consultations for chronic illnesses were also provided.
In addition, beneficiaries received free distribution of Janaushadhi medicines and Suvidha sanitary pads. Awareness sessions highlighted how generic medicines under the scheme are significantly more affordable than branded alternatives while maintaining prescribed quality standards.
Camps Across States and Union Territories
On Day 4, camps were organised in multiple regions including Doddaballapur and Haveri in Karnataka, Mohol in Solapur district of Maharashtra, Nowhatta in Downtown Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, and Palnadu in Andhra Pradesh.
Despite festive celebrations, footfall remained high, reflecting growing public trust in the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). Officials noted that such outreach initiatives play a key role in preventive healthcare by encouraging early diagnosis and treatment.
PMBJP: Expanding Access to Affordable Medicines
Under the PMBJP scheme, quality generic medicines are made available through more than 18,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across India. The government has set a target of establishing 25,000 Kendras by March 2027 to ensure wider accessibility.
The scheme, implemented by PMBI, seeks to reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure for citizens. By providing essential medicines at substantially lower prices, the initiative addresses a major financial burden faced by families.
Entrepreneurs, pharmacists and eligible individuals interested in opening a Janaushadhi Kendra can apply through the official portal at janaushadhi.gov.in. Financial assistance and performance-based incentives are provided under the scheme.
Healthcare Awareness Beyond Treatment
Officials emphasised that Janaushadhi Saptah is not limited to medicine distribution but also focuses on public awareness about preventive healthcare. The free camps serve as a platform to educate citizens on lifestyle diseases, early screening and cost-effective treatment options.
With participation spanning urban and rural areas alike, the fourth day of Janaushadhi Saptah 2026 reinforced the government’s commitment to affordable, accessible and quality healthcare for all.
