The Congress manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections is expected to revolve around the concept of ‘Paanch Nyays,’ representing the five pillars of justice articulated by Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Planned for release on April 5, the manifesto is poised to be unveiled by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi at the All India Congress Committee Headquarters in New Delhi.
Kharge, along with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi, will further underscore the manifesto’s key points during public rallies in Jaipur and Hyderabad on April 6. The document is geared to focus on ‘Paanch Nyays,’ encompassing ‘Yuva Nyay,’ ‘Naari Nyay,’ ‘Kisaan Nyay,’ ‘Shramik Nyay,’ and ‘Hissedari Nyay,’ which were introduced during Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
In terms of policy specifics, the manifesto is likely to commit to repealing the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Furthermore, it may address the demand for the complete counting of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) paper slips.
While the party is anticipated to advocate for various social justice measures, such as reservation for Other Backward Categories (OBCs) in private educational institutions and a national caste census, it is unlikely to include the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in its agenda.
The manifesto panel, led by former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, submitted a draft to party President Kharge in March, with contributions from leaders such as TS Singh Deo, Siddaramaiah, Jairam Ramesh, Shashi Tharoor, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
With voting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 slated to commence on April 19, spanning seven phases for the 543 Lok Sabha seats, the election results will be announced on June 4.
