In the electoral agreement of the MVA, Shiv Sena (UBT) is slated to contest 21 seats, with Congress vying for 17 and NCP for 10. This arrangement, announced by Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole, signifies a concession by the Congress to prioritize defeating the BJP over securing specific seats. The decision came after Shiv Sena unilaterally declared candidates for Sangli and Mumbai South Central seats, and the NCP announced its nominee for Bhiwandi. Despite some reservations among Congress workers, Patole stressed the significance of unity within the alliance.
Seat allocations entail Congress receiving seven out of ten seats in Vidarbha, three in Marathwada and Western Maharashtra, and two in both North Maharashtra and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Meanwhile, NCP has clinched five seats in Western Maharashtra, two in North Maharashtra, and one each in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Notably, the alliance did not reserve any seats for smaller allies within the MVA.
Furthermore, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray expressed regret over the inability to incorporate Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar into the alliance. MVA leaders also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Thackeray accusing the BJP of corruption and misuse of government power. Sharad Pawar added that Modi’s conduct as Prime Minister has brought disgrace to the position.
