In the aftermath of a tragic bus crash in Mahendragarh, Haryana, resulting in the loss of six young lives, authorities have taken swift action. Among those apprehended are the school principal, along with two others, including the driver who reportedly abandoned the bus just before it collided with a tree. Also in custody is the school secretary.
A thorough investigation revealed concerning details about the bus involved. It was found that the bus, owned by GL Public School, had been operating with an expired fitness certificate dating back six years, to 2018. Consequently, a state road transport official has been suspended pending further inquiry.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra Rana stated, “A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, focusing on culpable homicide not amounting to murder, in addition to pertinent sections of the Motor Vehicle Act due to the expired fitness certificate.”
In a distressing revelation, it was confirmed that the driver, Dharmendra, had alcohol in his system, as per a medical examination conducted post-incident. Furthermore, reports surfaced indicating that local residents had previously raised concerns about the driver’s inebriation, underscoring potential negligence on the part of school authorities.
Addressing the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, State Education Minister Seema Trikha emphasized the need for accountability. She expressed disbelief that classes were conducted on Eid, a designated holiday, and assured stringent measures to ensure compliance with transport regulations.
