Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on the ongoing border dispute between India and China, Beijing highlighted the importance of maintaining “sound and stable ties” for the mutual interests of both nations. This statement came after PM Modi underscored the need to address the “prolonged situation” at the borders urgently.
Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning, addressing PM Modi’s remarks during a press briefing, stated, “China noted Prime Minister Modi’s remarks.” She further emphasized, “Sound and stable China-India relations serve the interests of both countries and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond.”
Regarding the border dispute, Mao acknowledged it as an issue in bilateral relations but stressed that it does not encompass the entirety of China-India relations. She reiterated the importance of managing the matter within the broader context of bilateral relations and highlighted the need for close communication and positive progress in resolving the border issues.
“We hope that India will work with China, approach the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, keep building trust and engage in dialogue and cooperation, and seek to handle differences appropriately to put the relationship on a sound and stable track,” Mao added.
In an interview with Newsweek, PM Modi expressed optimism about restoring peace and tranquility at the borders through constructive engagement. He underscored the significance of stable and peaceful relations between India and China for the entire region and the world.
Earlier assessments in Chinese media characterized Modi’s remarks as a gesture of goodwill, reflecting efforts to find a fair and mutually acceptable resolution to the border disputes between the two countries.
