A panel of four members appointed by the government will investigate the tragic school bus crash in Mahendragarh, Haryana, which resulted in the deaths of six students and left around 20 injured. The accident occurred near Unhani village in Kanina when the bus, carrying approximately 40 students from primary to secondary classes to GL Public School, collided with a tree and overturned. An FIR has been filed in connection with the incident.
The Haryana Education Department has arranged a meeting today at 3 pm to discuss vehicle safety policy. Attendees will include all District Education Officers, Elementary Education Officers, and Block Education Officers from various regions of the state, participating via video conferencing.
Preliminary investigations uncovered distressing scenes at the crash site, with school bags, shoes, and study materials scattered amidst the wreckage. Heartbreaking reports portrayed injured and suffering children, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident.
According to police reports, the driver, identified as Dharmender, was allegedly intoxicated and driving recklessly when the accident occurred. Despite efforts by concerned villagers to intervene, the bus continued its journey, resulting in a tragic outcome.
In connection with the incident, three individuals, including the school’s principal and another staff member, have been arrested.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other leaders have expressed deep sadness and called for urgent measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety standards of school transportation, with reports indicating that the bus lacked necessary documentation and had previously faced fines for non-compliance.
