Union Home Minister Amit Shah has lauded the efforts of the BJP government and law enforcement in Chhattisgarh, highlighting significant progress in the fight against Naxalism. Since the BJP assumed power in the state three months ago, more than 80 Naxalites have been eliminated, 125 apprehended, and over 150 have surrendered.
Shah reiterated the government’s dedication to eradicating Naxalism across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed to recent actions against Naxalists in Chhattisgarh as evidence of this commitment.
The BJP’s takeover of power in Chhattisgarh last year marked a transition from the Congress regime. Shah praised the collective efforts of security forces, particularly in response to a recent encounter in Kanker district that resulted in the elimination of 29 Naxals.
Shah underscored the role of the Chhattisgarh police in providing vital intelligence for anti-Naxal operations, emphasizing the collaborative approach in the ongoing battle against Naxal terrorism.
The Home Minister reaffirmed the government’s enduring commitment to combating Naxalism, highlighting the establishment and expansion of numerous joint security force camps since 2014.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo hailed the recent anti-Naxal operation as one of the most successful in recent memory, with 29 Naxals eliminated and no casualties reported among the forces.
However, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, also a Congress candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, expressed concerns about the operation, alleging instances of ‘fake encounters’ during the BJP’s tenure and calling for scrutiny to ensure innocent civilians are not wrongly targeted.
