Visit Highlights Strong Strategic Partnership between India and France
Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan has concluded a comprehensive visit to France, strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between India and France and reinforcing their bilateral defence cooperation.
During his visit, Gen Chauhan met with key French defence officials, including Mr Patrick Pailloux, Director of the Civil & Military Cabinet of the Minister of the French Armed Forces, and Lt Gen Vincent Giraud, Chief of Military Cabinet of the Minister of the Armed Forces. He also engaged in discussions with his counterpart, General Thierry Burkhard (CEMA), exchanging views on areas of mutual interest and shared security concerns.
The discussions at France’s Directorate General of Armament focused on advancing the exchange of high-end dual-use technologies. Gen Chauhan also held meetings with leaders from the French defence industry, such as Dassault, Safran, Naval Group, and Thales Alenia Space, to discuss building futuristic capabilities for the Indian Armed Forces and promoting indigenization.
Visits to the French Land Forces Command (CFT), French Space Command (CDE), and the School of Military Studies (Ecole Militaire) provided an opportunity to share India’s perspective on security challenges. These engagements also facilitated enhanced defence collaboration in space, modernization initiatives, and bilateral training opportunities.
Gen Chauhan also paid respects to the War Memorials of Neuve-Chapelle and Villers-Guislain, honouring the bravery of the Indian Expeditionary Force soldiers who fought on the Western Front during World War I. These memorials are a testament to the enduring Indo-French relationship.
The India-France Strategic Partnership has gained significant momentum over time, evolving into a closer and multifaceted relationship spanning various areas of cooperation.
