NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav criticized the central government on Tuesday, accusing it of trying to undermine the Constitution and democracy.
In his conversation with reporters, the RJD chief voiced his support for reservations for Muslims, stating, “Reservation must be fully granted to Muslims.”
Yadav also claimed that his party has the public’s backing, while the BJP is using scare tactics by suggesting the return of ‘Jungle Raj’ to provoke unrest. “The votes are in our favor. They talk about ‘Jungle Raj’ because they are afraid and attempting to stir people. They aim to undermine the Constitution and democracy,” he said.
During his campaign rallies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly criticized the Congress party, accusing it of practicing “vote-bank politics.” He asserted that Congress would potentially take reservations away from SC and ST communities to give them to Muslims. The Prime Minister emphasized that he would not allow reservations for Muslims based on religion if it would harm SCs, STs, and OBCs.
Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that if his party forms the government, they will remove the 50% reservation cap in government jobs and increase it to adequately address the needs of tribals, SC/STs, OBCs, and the poor.
The Lok Sabha elections are taking place in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
