In a video message on Tuesday, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi offered a sharp critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She accused them of focusing on power at the expense of the country’s well-being and of inciting hatred for political benefit.
In the video shared on the Congress party’s official X handle (formerly Twitter), Gandhi highlighted the challenges facing different groups across the country, including youth struggling with unemployment, women encountering violence, and marginalized communities facing discrimination. She attributed these issues to the actions and intentions of PM Modi and the BJP, stressing their focus on attaining power at any cost.
Gandhi said, “The Congress Party and I have always fought for progress for all, justice for the marginalized, and the strengthening of our nation. The Congress and INDIA alliance are dedicated to safeguarding the Constitution and democracy.”
She expressed concern about the threats to the country’s Constitution and democracy, as well as the growing divisions within society. Gandhi urged voters to support the Congress party’s vision for a more equitable and unified India.
“Reject those who spread lies and hatred, and vote for the Congress to secure a brighter and more equal future for everyone. Let’s build a stronger, more united India together, with peace and harmony for all,” Gandhi stated.
Gandhi’s appeal coincided with the third phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
