Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nomination filing for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, Vistara Airlines has issued a cautionary notice for travelers heading to the holy city on Tuesday.
The Tata-backed airline has urged its passengers to plan their journeys to Varanasi accordingly, as significant traffic congestion and slow-moving vehicles are anticipated en route to Varanasi airport on May 14th.
“Customers are advised to allocate additional time for their commute to the airport,” stated Vistara in an official release.
PM Modi is set to file his nomination for the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday.
Several potential candidates seeking to challenge PM Modi in Varanasi were reportedly denied nominations, with allegations surfacing that election officials made the process cumbersome by requiring multiple documents, including Aadhaar card copies and phone numbers of proposers, for obtaining the nomination form.
Varanasi, a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party and PM Modi, has seen him emerge victorious twice in the past—during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress has nominated Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai to contest against PM Modi in Varanasi, marking Rai’s third consecutive face-off against the incumbent Prime Minister in the Lok Sabha polls.
Voting in Varanasi is scheduled for June 1st, marking the culmination of the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi secured victory in Varanasi with over 6,74,664 votes, boasting a significant vote share of 63.6%.
