Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, passed away at the age of 72 while undergoing treatment at Delhi’s AIIMS. Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey expressed deep sorrow over the loss, recalling Modi as not only a political colleague but also a close friend and confidant.
Choubey, visibly moved, shared memories of their bond, describing Modi as an integral part of his life for over five decades. He reminisced about Modi’s unwavering support, even during times of disagreement, and praised his dedication to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideals.
In a heartfelt video message, Choubey expressed profound sadness at losing his “best friend” and offered prayers for Modi’s soul. Modi’s significant contributions to Bihar’s political landscape, including his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020, were acknowledged by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior leaders.
The BJP, in a statement, mourned the loss of a stalwart and noted Modi’s pivotal role in the party’s journey in Bihar. Modi’s passing marks the end of an era, with his legacy as a dedicated leader and administrator enduring.
As per hospital sources, Modi’s last rites will take place in Patna, with condolences pouring in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sushil Kumar Modi’s contributions, highlighting his principled stance during the Emergency, diligent work as a legislator, and instrumental role in the implementation of GST.
