In a tragic sequence of events, the owner of a children’s hospital in East Delhi has been apprehended by the Delhi police following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of seven infants. The blaze erupted at the New Born Baby Care Hospital in Vivek Vihar on Saturday night, prompting a swift response from nine fire tenders. Dr. Naveen, the hospital’s proprietor, was initially detained for questioning and subsequently arrested.
While investigations are ongoing, the cause of the fire remains unknown. In response to this incident, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has directed the chief secretary to initiate an inquiry. Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has assured that infants rescued from the fire will receive free treatment under the state government’s Farishtey scheme.
Tragically, this fire follows another blaze in the Krishna Nagar district of East Delhi, where three individuals lost their lives in a residential building. These incidents occurred shortly after a fatal fire in Rajkot, Gujarat, claiming the lives of at least 27 people.
As the city grapples with these tragedies, efforts are underway to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents. Additional Chief Secretary Ashwini Kumar has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the hospital fire, aiming to identify the circumstances leading to the tragedy and recommend preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has dispatched a team to investigate the hospital fire, underscoring the urgency of understanding and addressing the factors contributing to such disasters.
In other news, Gurgaon schools will remain closed from May 27 to May 31 due to rising temperatures, and concerns persist among Delhi’s elderly population regarding safety and the well-being of future generations amidst the Lok Sabha polls.
