In light of recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the security situation in the region and to finalize the preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
The meeting saw participation from key figures including NSA Ajit Doval, Home Secretary, Army Chief Manoj Pande, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha, Army Chief designate Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, Director IB Tapan Deka, BSF DG Nitin Agarwal, CRPF DG Anish Dayal, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Union Territory.
Given the heightened concerns over security following the recent attacks, the Home Minister has scheduled another detailed meeting for June 16 at North Block. This session will involve the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Security Advisor, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officers from the Army, police, Jammu and Kashmir administration, and the MHA.
During Sunday’s meeting, officials briefed Amit Shah on the current security landscape and the readiness to counter terrorist threats in Jammu and Kashmir. Since June 9, terrorist incidents in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and one CRPF jawan, as well as injuries to a civilian and at least seven security personnel. Enhanced security measures are being implemented to protect the residents of J&K and the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra, ensuring peace and order in the state.
Earlier, on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a top-level meeting to address the security situation in the region. This meeting included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior officials. PM Modi was provided with a comprehensive update on the anti-terrorism efforts and the security measures being taken. He discussed the deployment of security forces and ongoing counter-terrorism operations with Home Minister Amit Shah and received an assessment of the situation from J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who briefed him on the local government’s response and preventive measures.
