Ahmedabad: In a recent operation, police in Gujarat’s Kutch and Porbandar districts recovered 87 packets of charas valued at over ₹40 crore, which had washed ashore. This seizure is part of a series of similar finds in the state.
Of the total, 81 packets were recovered from the Kutch district within the last few days, including 40 packets found on Monday alone. Additionally, six packets were discovered in Porbandar’s coastal village of Odadar on Monday.
In recent days, over 200 packets of narcotics have been recovered across the coastal districts of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar. The police have intensified their search operations using drones and human intelligence.
Kutch Superintendent of Police Mahendra Bagadiya reported that the charas packets were found in areas like Nal Sarovar, Jakhau, and Mandvi, with the total value estimated at ₹40 crore.
A few days earlier, Kutch police also found abandoned packets containing methamphetamine. These packets are believed to have been dumped by smugglers in the deep sea and washed ashore due to favourable wind conditions.
Following these seizures, police have registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against unidentified individuals. Recently, Devbhumi Dwarka police reported finding 115 packets containing 124 kg of charas, valued at ₹62 crore, over 10 days.
