Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit his constituency of Varanasi today, June 18, for the first time since winning the seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This marks his first official visit to Varanasi after assuming office for his third consecutive term.
During his visit, Modi will also travel to other parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on June 18 and 19, as per a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Key announcements expected include the release of the 17th instalment of the PM-Kisan Yojana and the inauguration of Nalanda University in Rajgir.
What to Expect from PM Modi’s Visit
- PM-Kisan Yojana: Modi will sign off on the 17th instalment of the PM-Kisan Nidhi at 5 pm, releasing ₹20,000 crore to approximately 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) through Direct Benefit Transfer.
- Krishi Sakhi Convergence Program (KSCP): Certificates will be granted to over 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) as part of the KSCP, which aims to empower rural women. Currently, over 34,000 out of 70,000 Krishi Sakhis have been certified as Para-extension Workers.
- Dashashwamedh Ghat and Kashi Vishwanath Temple: In the evening, Modi is expected to visit Dashashwamedh Ghat for Ganga Arti at 7 pm, followed by a ‘pooja and darshan’ at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple at 8 pm.
June 19 – Inauguration of Nalanda University
On June 19, Modi will be in Bihar to inaugurate the Nalanda University campus in Rajgir at 10.30 am. This new campus is a modern homage to the original 1,600-year-old Nalanda University and is a collaboration between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries. The ceremony will be attended by Heads of Missions from 17 countries along with other prominent dignitaries.
