Union Minister for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, chaired a review meeting today at the Forest Survey of India in Dehradun to discuss the management and mitigation of forest fires across the country. The meeting included senior officials from the Ministry, the Director General of Forests & Special Secretary (DGF&SS), the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) of Uttarakhand, and other state forest department officers. Additionally, the Director General of the Forest Survey of India, DG of ICFRE, and the Director of FRI, along with senior officers from these institutions, were present.
During the meeting, Shri Yadav assessed the current status of forest fires and emphasized the need for a robust strategy involving public participation to mitigate them. He reviewed the existing forest fire alert systems and called for improvements to ensure timely warnings.
Key points of discussion included prioritizing areas that experience frequent fires and developing suitable methods to address them. Shri Yadav also highlighted the importance of enhancing early warning systems and equipping frontline workers with protective gear to better combat forest fires.
