Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha sparked controversy after he claimed that those who identify as Hindus are involved in “violence and hate” continuously. This statement triggered a strong reaction from various political leaders.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded sharply to Gandhi’s comments, labeling the Congress leader as “immature.” He expressed disappointment, stating, “We hoped Rahul Gandhi would mature after becoming the Leader of the Opposition. Unfortunately, his remarks suggest otherwise. Hinduism is the core society and soul of India.”
Gandhi’s remarks led to significant protests from National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs. He emphasized that while all religions preach non-violence and fearlessness, those identifying as Hindus are focused on violence and hatred. He even questioned their authenticity as Hindus.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized Gandhi for disrespecting Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by frequently turning his back on him, violating House rules. Rijiju voiced the government’s disappointment with Gandhi’s conduct, hoping for more maturity given his position as Leader of the Opposition.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw accused Gandhi of spreading misinformation about the Agniveer scheme. Gandhi had claimed that martyrs under the scheme would not receive compensation, a statement Vaishnaw called a “big lie.” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh clarified during the session that martyrs would receive ₹1 crore in compensation.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned Gandhi’s speech, asserting that it revealed the Congress party’s anti-Hindu sentiment. He emphasized that Gandhi’s words showcased his deep-seated animosity towards Hinduism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reacted during the session, criticizing Gandhi’s attempt to portray Hindus as violent. Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanded an apology from Gandhi, while BJP President JP Nadda accused him of combining lies with hatred in his speech.
In defense of her brother, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that Rahul’s remarks were directed at the BJP, not Hindus. She clarified, “He cannot insult Hindus. He was clearly talking about the BJP and its leaders.”
