The Union Budget for the financial year 2024-25 is set to be unveiled in the Lok Sabha on July 23. The Budget Session of Parliament will run from July 22 to August 12. This schedule was announced by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He mentioned, “Hon’ble President of India, on the recommendation of Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session, 2024 from July 22, 2024 to August 12, 2024 (Subject to exigencies of Parliamentary Business). Union Budget, 2024-25 will be presented in Lok Sabha on July 23, 2024.”
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is poised to present the full budget of the Modi 3.0 government, following the Interim Budget that was introduced on February 1. This occasion will be historic for Sitharaman as she will become the first Indian finance minister to present seven consecutive Union Budgets, surpassing the record previously held by Morarji Desai.
Morarji Desai, who served as India’s finance minister from 1959 to 1964, delivered five full Budgets and one interim Budget, maintaining the record for the most budgets presented by any finance minister for over fifty years. Sitharaman’s presentation on July 23 will therefore mark a notable milestone in the history of India’s financial administration.
