A devastating landslide, triggered by heavy rains, has claimed the lives of three pilgrims, including two from Maharashtra, on their journey to the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand. The tragic incident occurred today near the Chirbasa area on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath trekking route in Rudraprayag district. Eight other pilgrims sustained injuries and have been rushed to the hospital. The third victim has been identified as a resident of Rudraprayag.
Rudraprayag’s District Magistrate reported that State Disaster Response Force and District Disaster Response Force teams are actively conducting rescue operations at the scene.
In light of this event, the weather office has issued a red alert for Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, predicting extremely heavy rainfall across parts of the state.
