In response to a recent tragedy in Delhi, Patna authorities have ramped up their crackdown on coaching institutes flouting regulations. The district administration and Patna Municipal Corporation are now focusing on centers that are operating without proper licenses.
In light of the Delhi incident, which highlighted serious safety lapses, Bihar has heightened its vigilance to prevent similar disasters in Patna. Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh announced that all coaching institutes will have their documentation thoroughly reviewed. This includes verifying permissions and no-objection certificates. “Following the tragic events in Delhi, we’ve instructed officials to scrutinize the documents of all coaching centers to ensure compliance with safety norms,” Singh stated.
To enhance enforcement, dedicated teams have been established across various sub-divisions to address non-compliant institutes. “Our goal is to avert any potential incidents and ensure that all 300 coaching centers in Patna adhere to regulations. We aim to complete this review within 15 days,” added Singh.
In parallel, the Patna Municipal Corporation is conducting its inspection to identify coaching centers operating in buildings that breach local building codes. Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar emphasized that both the centers and the property owners will face stringent penalties. The initial focus is on congested and densely populated areas.
This proactive stance follows a tragic event in Delhi where three civil service aspirants lost their lives due to flooding in a coaching center’s basement library. The victims were Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Navin Dalwin from Kerala.
Patna’s increased oversight aims to ensure such a tragedy does not occur locally and to enhance the safety and legality of educational institutions in the region.
