The Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Shri Manoj Kumar, alongside Rajya Sabha MP Shri Arun Singh, launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign at the Khadi Gramshilpa Lounge on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi. During the event, a special sales center for National Flags, Charkhas, and Khadi fabrics was inaugurated.
Rajya Sabha MP Shri Arun Singh urged citizens to hoist Khadi-made National flags on their rooftops this Independence Day as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan.’ He emphasized that this initiative not only celebrates national pride but also generates additional employment opportunities for the artisans associated with KVIC. Under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, KVIC has been actively working towards uplifting rural India, resulting in record-breaking sales of KVIC products, surpassing ₹1.55 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2023-24.
Addressing the media, KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar highlighted that in the Amritkaal of Independence, Khadi, the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, has reached new heights under the brand power of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. To further the reach of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan,’ KVIC has launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Khadi’ campaign nationwide. As part of this initiative, 3×2 feet National Flags made of Khadi/Polyester are available at Khadi stores across the country for a special price of ₹198. Shri Kumar also noted that in the past decade, under PM Modi’s leadership, the ‘New Khadi of New India’ has become synonymous with a ‘Developed India.’
Shri Manoj Kumar reiterated that Khadi, Gandhiji’s enduring legacy, is now empowering the Viksit Bharat campaign in villages across India through a Khadi revolution led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and guided by the Ministry of MSME. He acknowledged PM Modi as the first Prime Minister to actively promote Khadi on every platform, both domestically and internationally. Each time PM Modi encouraged people to purchase Khadi during his Mann Ki Baat addresses, a significant surge in sales was observed. In the 112th edition of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi urged the nation to participate in the Tiranga Yatra on Independence Day and to purchase Khadi clothing. His appeal has played a crucial role in sustaining Khadi artisans, with sales of Khadi and Village Industry products increasing fivefold and production quadrupling over the last decade. Additionally, over 10.17 lakh new jobs have been created in this sector. In the fiscal year 2023-24, National Flags worth ₹7.25 crore were sold under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, following PM Modi’s call to action.
The KVIC Chairman also emphasized that, in line with PM Modi’s vision, KVIC is promoting cottage industries nationwide to strengthen the ‘Khadi Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ in every village, building towards a ‘Developed and Self-Reliant India.’ Through the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, Khadi artisans producing National Flags are earning additional income. Over the past decade, the ‘New Khadi of New India’ has furthered the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan,’ with increased Khadi production and sales bringing financial prosperity to rural artisans. The Prime Minister’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives have also made Khadi popular among the youth.
In the lead-up to Independence Day, Khadi kurtas, charkhas of various sizes, and National Flags are available for purchase from August 9 to 15 at the Khadi Gramshilpa Lounge in Connaught Place. Joint Secretary of the MSME Ministry, Shri Vipul Goyal, along with officers and employees of various KVIC offices in Delhi, were also present at the event.
