BJP National President JP Nadda has strongly criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, accusing it of protecting “rapists and criminals” following the violence that erupted during the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally on Tuesday. The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) countered by condemning what they described as ‘BJP goons’ forcefully breaching barricades and attempting to enter the restricted Nabanna area.
Expressing his outrage, Nadda stated, “The scenes of police brutality in Kolkata have shocked every individual who upholds democratic values. In Didi’s West Bengal, supporting rapists and criminals is rewarded, while speaking out for women’s safety is treated as a crime,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Nadda’s comments follow widespread reports of lathi charges by state police during what was described as an “apolitical” student-led rally. The demonstration was organized to protest the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.
