The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday requested permission from the Sealdah court to conduct a polygraph test on Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anup Dutta of the Kolkata Police. This request is part of the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
ASI Dutta’s involvement came to light after it was discovered that Sanjay Roy, the sole individual arrested in the case so far, had contacted him on the morning of the crime. Dutta is alleged to have provided Roy with various favors, including the illegal allocation of a bed in the barracks of the Kolkata Police’s fourth battalion and the unauthorized use of a police bike, which is strictly reserved for official police personnel, not civic volunteers.
The former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, was also summoned to the CBI office at the CGO Complex on Tuesday. Ghosh had previously undergone a polygraph test but was called back for further questioning to address unresolved queries. On Monday, he was interrogated twice by CBI teams, once at Nizam Palace and later at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake.
As part of their investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar, the CBI questioned several individuals, including former MSVP Sanjoy Vashishth, at their Nizam Palace office on Tuesday. The agency also submitted a request to the court to add forgery charges to the case.
On Sunday, CBI teams conducted raids across multiple locations in the city in search of additional evidence related to the alleged financial misconduct. The CBI took over the investigation of the rape and murder on August 13, but no further arrests have been made at this time.
