The Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India, has honored SJVN with the esteemed Navratna status, making it the 25th Navratna company in the country. This significant achievement marks a major milestone in SJVN’s 36-year history.
Sushil Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN, expressed deep gratitude for the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging his role in this historic moment. Sharma also extended thanks to Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Hon’ble Power Minister Manohar Lal for their steadfast support and guidance. Special appreciation was given to the Government of Himachal Pradesh for its continuous assistance as an Equity Partner.
Sharma stated, “The Navratna status is awarded to select Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) that have consistently showcased exceptional financial performance and managerial efficiency. This designation will provide us with greater financial and operational flexibility to advance our business and enhance national energy security. It not only acknowledges our past accomplishments but also positions us to undertake larger projects, establish strategic partnerships, and contribute significantly to the government’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.”
With the Navratna status, SJVN can now make investments without any financial limits, accelerating its growth trajectory. The company is authorized to invest up to 30% of its net worth annually, further driving its expansion plans. This increased autonomy also enables SJVN to form joint ventures, establish overseas subsidiaries, and undertake organizational restructuring to enhance operational efficiency.
SJVN was previously awarded Miniratna status in 2008. Today, the company boasts a diverse project portfolio totaling 56,802.4 MW, with 13 projects amounting to 2,466.5 MW of installed capacity in operation and 75 projects in various stages of development across hydro, solar, wind, thermal, and transmission sectors. Established in 1988 as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, SJVN has evolved into a comprehensive power entity with operations in India and Nepal.
