Agmarknet 2.0: A Technological Leap
Launched under the Marketing Research and Information Network (MRIN) scheme, the Agmarknet portal has been operational since 2000. In November 2025, the government rolled out Agmarknet Portal 2.0, a technologically upgraded version designed to integrate Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) nationwide.
Currently, 4,367 mandis are linked to the portal, providing farmers with real-time price and arrival data. The newly introduced Agmarknet 2.0 mobile app allows on-the-spot entry of mandi data and enables farmers to access updated information directly on their smartphones. This innovation is expected to significantly reduce information gaps and empower farmers to make informed selling decisions.
e-NAM: Expanding Digital Market Access
The e-NAM platform, launched as a demand-driven scheme, continues to expand based on proposals from State Governments and Union Territories. Unlike fixed expansion targets, integration depends on local readiness and demand. So far, 1,522 mandis have been onboarded.
Through e-NAM, farmers can view real-time mandi prices of traded commodities, participate in online bidding, and receive e-payments for timely transactions. This digital marketplace ensures fair price discovery and reduces dependence on middlemen, thereby enhancing farmers’ bargaining power.
Mobile Services for Farmers
To further strengthen accessibility, e-NAM offers a free mobile-based service covering 247 notified commodities. Farmers can use the app to identify nearby e-NAM mandis, check prevailing prices, and even access route maps. This mobile-first approach is particularly significant for small and marginal farmers who often face challenges in reaching physical markets.
Government’s Commitment to Transparency
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, informed the Lok Sabha that these initiatives are part of the government’s broader push to ensure transparency and efficiency in agricultural marketing. By integrating technology with traditional mandi systems, the government aims to create a more equitable marketplace for farmers.
Both Agmarknet 2.0 and e-NAM represent a shift towards digitally empowered agriculture, where farmers can access real-time data, participate in fair trade, and secure timely payments. These reforms are expected to reduce exploitation, improve income stability, and strengthen rural economies.
