Agri Stack 2025: Digital Tools Deliver Growth for Farmers

India took a big step in transforming agriculture at the National Conference on Agri Stack: Turning Data into Delivery, hosted on 13 June 2025 by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW) at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The event gathered Centre and State leaders to accelerate digital agriculture under the Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM).

Strong Push for Digital Governance

Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary (Agriculture), opened the conference with a call to embrace farmer-focused technology. He urged States to sync Farmer Registries with updated Records of Rights (RoR) for more accurate and faster delivery of welfare schemes.

The Secretary of Land Resources (DoLR) stressed the role of digital land records and Aadhaar in identifying rightful farmers. He warned that outdated records and declining rural incomes risk undermining benefits unless corrected with urgency.

Connecting Farmers to Key Schemes

Shri Pramod Kumar Meherda, Additional Secretary (Digital), explained how Agri Stack links to flagship schemes like PM-KISAN, PMFBY, and Kisan Credit Card (KCC). He called for better geo-tagging, quality checks, and use of the Unified Farmer Service Interface (UFSI).

New tools like Digitally Verifiable Certificates (DVCs) and Farmer Authorization Systems will let farmers share their land and crop details securely. These tools aim to give farmers more control, while enabling faster delivery of support services.

₹6,000 Cr Support for Digital Rollout

A major milestone was the signing of MoUs with Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha, plus the PSB Alliance with the National Farmers’ Welfare Program Implementation Society (NFWPIS). These deals allow farmers to access credit digitally, with fewer documents and delays.

The Centre also launched the Special Central Assistance (SCA) Guidelines, announcing ₹6,000 crore to help States. ₹4,000 crore is reserved for Farmer Registry upgrades, and ₹2,000 crore for Digital Crop Surveys (DCS)—allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

State-Led Innovations Show Promise

In a session titled “Insights from States on Agri Stack Usage,” top-performing States showcased real-world progress:

• Maharashtra enrolled lakhs of farmers and pitched a sandbox model for AI advisory called Mahavistaar AI.

• Uttar Pradesh linked Agri Stack to MSP e-procurement and shared insights from its DCS rollout.

• Karnataka demonstrated FRUITS-bank integration, disaster relief support, and use of soil health data for personalized advice.

Farmers Get Digital Identity and Redressal Tools

The Ministry launched the Kisan Pehchan Patra, a DVC integrated with DigiLocker, allowing farmers to share land and crop data as proof of identity. These credentials auto-update after land ownership changes.

A unified grievance portal was also unveiled. Farmers can now log complaints using OTP-based login, voice messages, and multi-language support. They can also authorize others to submit complaints on their behalf.

AI Chatbots and Smart Tools Launched

India’s digital push includes an AI-powered chatbot, built using Google Gemini. It helps farmers with real-time answers in multiple languages. Other AI tools now help supervisors verify crop data, authenticate surveyors with facial recognition, and optimize backend systems.

The Road Ahead

Additional Secretary (Digital) led an open dialogue with State leaders to gather feedback and share best practices. Shri Anindya Banerjee, Deputy Advisor, closed the event by praising the collaborative efforts and reaffirming the Centre’s support for inclusive, data-driven farming.
