AIIA Signs MoU with Insurers for Cashless Ayurveda Care

RR Team, February 10, 2026February 10, 2026
In a landmark step towards integrating Ayurveda with India’s mainstream health insurance framework, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has signed a Common Empanelment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Insurance Council (GIC). The agreement, signed on February 10, marks a major advancement in making Ayurveda-based healthcare more accessible and affordable through cashless insurance facilities.

With this MoU, AIIA has been empanelled with all 32 general insurance companies represented under the General Insurance Council, enabling eligible patients to avail cashless treatment services for approved Ayurvedic procedures and therapies.

MoU Signed in Presence of Ayush and Insurance Leaders

The MoU was formally signed by Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, and Shri Segar Sampathkumar, Director (Health) at the General Insurance Council. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance.

Senior faculty members of AIIA, including the Deans of postgraduate and doctoral studies and the Director of Medical Services, were also present, reflecting the institutional significance of the agreement.

Cashless Ayurveda Treatment Becomes a Reality

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Prajapati said that the MoU makes AIIA eligible to provide cashless treatment facilities under all general insurance companies affiliated with the GIC. He noted that this development would substantially improve patient convenience and confidence in Ayurveda-based medical care.

He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Ayush and the AIIA team for sustained efforts, stating that the initiative would enhance accessibility, affordability and trust in traditional healthcare systems.

A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative for Ayush Institutions

Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra described the agreement as a historic first, noting that no Ayush institution in the country had previously entered into a formal empanelment arrangement with the General Insurance Council.

He said the availability of cashless treatment at AIIA is expected to strengthen institutional credibility, expand patient outreach and contribute to the sustainable growth of Ayush healthcare services across India.

Ayush Health Insurance Helpline Launched

During the event, Prof. Misra also highlighted a new initiative by the Ministry of Ayush — the launch of a dedicated Ayush Health Insurance Helpline. The helpline has been created to assist beneficiaries with insurance-related queries and improve awareness about coverage for Ayush treatments.

The helpline number is 1800-11-0008 and operates from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM on all working days, aiming to ensure smoother access to entitled insurance benefits.

Strengthening Ayurveda in the National Healthcare System

The MoU aligns with the government’s broader objective of integrating traditional systems of medicine into the national healthcare framework. By enabling insurance-backed Ayurveda treatment, the initiative bridges a long-standing gap between conventional healthcare financing and Ayush practices.
