The flight, which took off around 2 a.m., was redirected as a precaution after Mumbai airport authorities received the threat via social media. A senior police officer confirmed that the aircraft is stationed at the airport, with security teams taking all necessary measures. The Air India spokesperson stated, “Flight AI119 operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a security alert and was diverted to Delhi on the advice of the government’s security regulatory committee.”
Passengers have disembarked safely and are being assisted at the terminal, with the airline working to minimize inconvenience. Air India reiterated its commitment to passenger safety.
This incident comes just days after another Air India Express flight experienced a mid-air technical glitch shortly after takeoff from Tiruchirappalli. In that case, quick actions by the pilots helped prevent a potential accident, ensuring the safety of 141 passengers.
