Vice-President Unveils Books on Ambedkar’s Legacy

The Vice-President of India launched two impactful books, ‘Ambedkar’s Messages’ and ‘Ambedkar ke Sandesh’, authored by Shri D.S. Veeraiah. He praised the books for their depth and relevance, especially for the younger generation.

According to him, the books serve as essential reading for lawmakers and families alike. He encouraged citizens to read Ambedkar’s words regularly, highlighting their enduring importance.

Emphasizing Ambedkar’s Contemporary Relevance

The Vice-President reminded the audience that India is celebrating the Amrit Kaal and the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption. He explained that these milestones make Ambedkar’s message more crucial than ever. Furthermore, he criticized the 42nd Constitutional Amendment for introducing the words “Socialist,” “Secular,” and “Integrity” into the Preamble—changes he believes violated the spirit of democracy and transparency, especially since they were made during the Emergency.

Judicial Views on the Preamble

The Vice-President cited landmark judgments such as Golaknath v. State of Punjab and Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala. He noted that judges like Justice H.R. Khanna emphasized the unalterable nature of the Preamble, calling it the soul of the Constitution.

These rulings, according to him, support the view that changes made during the Emergency undermined foundational values.

Ambedkar’s Timely Warning

Quoting Ambedkar’s final speech to the Constituent Assembly in 1949, the Vice-President highlighted his fears about losing independence due to internal divisions. Ambedkar had warned against placing creed above country, a concern that remains relevant today.

He urged all citizens to introspect and remain vigilant, especially as political divisions deepen and national unity is challenged.

A Heartfelt Tribute and a National Call

The Vice-President paid heartfelt tribute to Dr. Ambedkar. He called for all Indians to revisit Ambedkar’s vision of nationalism, constitutional morality, and unity.

He especially congratulated Shri D.S. Veeraiah for compiling these messages with such clarity and emotion. Finally, he encouraged everyone to reflect on how faithfully we are living up to Ambedkar’s ideals in today’s India.
