Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday strongly criticized the Congress, accusing the party of distorting his statements made in the Rajya Sabha about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Mr. Shah claimed that the Congress used an 11-second video clip to misrepresent his remarks, which, he said, highlighted the BJP’s longstanding position that the Congress is “anti-Ambedkar, anti-Constitution, and anti-reservation.”
Speaking at a press conference held at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi, Mr. Shah, alongside key Cabinet ministers J.P. Nadda, Kiren Rijiju, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Piyush Goyal, declared that the BJP would explore legal avenues both within and outside Parliament against the Congress for allegedly twisting his words.
The Home Minister reiterated that his comments were aimed at showcasing how the BJP had consistently exposed the Congress’s stance on critical issues like the legacy of Ambedkar and reservations. The incident has escalated political tensions, with the BJP asserting its commitment to defending its position and taking action against what it called “false propaganda” by the opposition party.
This controversy adds another layer to the ongoing debate on Ambedkar’s legacy and its appropriation in contemporary political discourse.
