Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Trinamool Congress government for alleged corruption, claiming that funds sent by Prime Minister Modi for Bengal’s development are misappropriated.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new passenger terminal at the Petrapole land port along the India-Bangladesh border, Shah emphasized that illegal immigration from Bangladesh disrupts peace in West Bengal. He stated that lasting tranquility in the state can only be achieved by halting cross-border infiltration.
“If the BJP comes to power in West Bengal in 2026, we will tackle illegal immigration,” Shah declared. “When there is no legitimate way to cross the border, illegal migration occurs, which harms the peace between India and Bangladesh. I urge the people of Bengal to support a change in government in 2026 so we can put an end to this issue.”
The new terminal, built at a cost of around Rs 500 crores, spans 60,000 square meters and has the capacity to handle 25,000 passengers daily. Shah highlighted the significance of land ports in fostering connectivity and trade between India and Bangladesh.
He further accused the Trinamool Congress of misusing development funds, stating, “In the past 10 years, Rs 56,000 crores have been allocated during NDA’s tenure under Narendra Modi. But does this money reach the intended beneficiaries of NREGA, or is it siphoned off to Trinamool Congress workers? I urge you to investigate this.”
Shah concluded by calling on the people of West Bengal to support political change in the upcoming elections.
