Shri Amit Shah highlighted the historical significance of Andaman and Nicobar, noting that freedom fighters endured immense suffering in the Cellular Jail. He praised the memorial of Veer Savarkar and the eternal flame, which honor the sacrifices of India’s martyrs, and acknowledged Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative of naming the islands as ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Swaraj’ to commemorate freedom fighters.
Shri Shah emphasized the transformative work undertaken by the Modi government in the islands, which has turned Andaman and Nicobar from a perceived fiscal burden into a hub of economic activity, strategic security, and tourism. He outlined nine major projects inaugurated today, including an Integrated Command and Control Centre worth ₹229 crore, Phase-I of the district hospital at ₹33 crore, a Forensic Science Laboratory, and six other schemes totaling ₹50 crore.
The Union Home Minister also inaugurated an exhibition detailing three new criminal laws, encouraging students, women, and legal professionals to understand the reforms shaping the future of India’s criminal justice system.
Shri Shah noted that the Modi government has prioritized sustainable development, mentioning that 2.4 million trees have been planted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative and that waste collection from 98% of households in Sri Vijaya Puram marks a historic Swachh Bharat Mission achievement.
He further outlined plans to position Andaman and Nicobar as an international scuba diving destination, a global trade hub, and a key pillar in India’s strategic security architecture. Highlighting the potential of the Great Nicobar project, Shri Shah said the island will evolve into a world-class tourist destination and economic center over the next decade.
Shri Shah concluded by urging citizens to embrace the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, promote indigenous products, and participate actively in the country’s development.
